Todays question If we, “the village,” believe that mental illness should be treated with the same care and concern as, say leukemia or heart disease, then we need to make sure the whole family receives help. As someone who has spent half her life in psychiatric units visiting family members who didn’t believe they had an illness, I salute those who take brave steps to deal proactively and preventively with mental health. Having a family therapist should be just as important as having a family physician and taking it upon oneself to get screened should be just as celebrated as the annual colonoscopy.
